“It’s become sort of contagious,” Howell said. “Several Yemeni entrepreneurs are opening coffee houses of their own, each with its own sort of style and atmosphere.”

The coffee chains have big ambitions beyond Dearborn. Qahwah House hopes to open another 20 to 30 locations in the next year, spanning across 12 states and Canada, Alhasbani said. They are also licensed out, but Alhasbani says he sets a high standard before agreeing to let anyone open a shop.

“We have too many people that come (asking me) they want to open. I have more than 10 different requests a day just to open this kind of business,” he said. “We don’t give anyone license until we make sure the person has the love for the brand and his mind and his heart in the Qahwah House.”
Another authentic Yemeni coffee chain, Haraz, also sees crowds of people throughout the day and night. They opened their first location in New York City last week — less than half a mile away from Qahwah House’s downtown Manhattan shop — and the franchisees plan to grow.

Cruise ship passengers who unexpectedly spent more than two weeks helping Hurricane Irma victims are finally going home. Royal Caribbean sent some of its ships to the Caribbean to help with the relief effort. One of them, the Majesty of th converse e Seas, was in the middle of a five-day cruise when the focus of the trip changed.  What started out as a relaxing cruise turned into a rescue mission. Here is my Creators Syndicate column on the political landscape after Iowa and New Hampshire. I try to suggest in the first two sentences that things are very unsettled.  Five elections. Five winners.  In both parties, we seem to have pretty firm factions operating. Usually there s a clear-cut difference between primaries and general elections. In seriously contested general elections, about 80 percent of the voters will vote the same way they did last time--about half of them Republican, half of them Democratic, with the proportions varying by constituency. With primaries, in contrast, voters are often all over the lot. They are not weighted down by party identification. They are ready t stanley cup o move anywhere.Yet sometimes they don t. There is a very high correlation in voting behavior between the Clinton/Obama race in 2008  stanley vattenflaska and the Gore/Bradley race in 2000 in New Hampshire.
