Shenzhen is famous for its slogan"If you come, you’re a Shenzhener", but do you really know about Shenzhen? The Planning Exhibition of Shenzhen provides a valuable opportunity for all Shenzheners to open the door of"Shenzhen Miracle".
On Aug.26 1980, the Standing Committee of the fifth National People’s Congress, the top legislature, approved the establishment of SEZs of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and Shantou in Guangdong Province and Xiamen in Fujian Province.
Since then, Shenzhen has transformed from a small backward border town into an international metropolis with global influence. Shenzhen, with the core of reform and innovation of the city, has reached great achievements today. Planning is the important driving force of the"Shenzhen Miracle".
The Planning Exhibition is centered on the core concept of"ecology, humanism, and innovation" and is mainly displayed on the third, fourth and fifth floors of The Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition (MOCAPE).
The theme of the third floor is"Urban Symbiosis", and there is a huge art sandbox installation called"Pengcheng Prism" at the entrance. It integrates Shenzhen's history, ecology, culture, transportation, future, and other planning contents, and presents Shenzhen's natural overview and urban pattern in a three-dimensional and multi-dimensional way with a1:7,5003D printed sandbox background.
The"Ecological Civilization" zone is surrounded by the"Pengcheng Prism". The zone vividly presents the four different habitat concepts of Shenzhenand relates plans of Shenzhen's ocean, marine belt, land and city to the viewers through graphics, video, audio and physical interaction.
There are more different zones on the third floor. In the“Space and society”zone, you can listen to those celebrities from various industries sharing their visions of Shenzhen and their ambitions in life. In the“24 hours in Shenzhen”zone, you can scrutinize the relationship between urban planning and citizens' lives. In the“Long Scroll” zone, you can see the magnificent beauty of mountains, seas and rivers to appreciate the charm of Shenzhen.
The theme of the fourth floor is"City Building Together", it shows Shenzhen's inspiring and even groundbreaking innovations in the field of urban planning in China. By playing games and watching movies, visitors can easily grasp the terminology of urban planning and understand Shenzhen's philosophy of ecological priority, flexible layout and regional synergy.
Stepping on the fifth-floor, we will step into"a journey of time and space". Walking through the exhibition area named“Shenzhen echo”, we can not only witnessthe growth and transformation of Shenzhen’s eight historical landscapes but also feel the blending of history and present. After all sorts of transformation, when we look backtothe past, mountain, city, river, garden, city, bay, and harbor remained the same, staring at us quietly in the long river of history.
At the exhibition area of“ShenzhenProgressive”, you can make a close-up observation of Shenzhen through the device of"Observing Shenzhen in Gallery". You can also leave your blessing for Shenzhen in the session of"To the Future".
There is a poetic space for meditation at the end of the exhibition. Sitting in the room filled with light, shadow, and music that changes with the weather data of Shenzhen, reading the wisdom on the floor, feeling the changes of stars and seasons,it's a good opportunity for you to explore your inner world and know yourself.
How to understand our past and think about our future has always been a topic for Shenzhen to explore. Coincidentally, there is also a mastertries to build a bridge connecting tradition and modern city, past and future constantly. His name is Anish Kapoor.
You may not have heard the name---Anish Kapoor, but you must have heard the famous installation"Cloud Gate", which affectionately known in Chicago as"The Bean". It’s made of multiple stainless steel plates welded together in a highly polished. The simplicity of the gesture makes people feel the gentle emotion inside.
In this exhibition, some of Kapoor's early works are covered. The colored powder is attached to sculptural forms of wood, resin and other mixed materials, demonstrating the influence of religious civilization on Kapoor.
Besides, red is the color that kapoor has put to most dramatic use. He said“Red has a very powerful blackness. This overt color, this open and visually beckoning color, also associates itself with a dark interior world.”
“My red homeland”is one of the highlights of this exhibition. It consists of a circular platform,12 metres across, supporting25 tons of wax and Vaseline mixed with pigment. An enormous square steel block, propelled by a motorized arm, slowly traces a one-hour course around the circle, destroying the wax and reshaping it into dams and peaks around the edge of the piece.
Nine easel paintings are the second highlight of this exhibition, which is surrounding by“My red homeland”. Kapoor's easel paintings rarely appear in art galleries. The nine paintings are a series of works based on the wall. They are composed of several layers of oil paint, which are covered with thin gauze. The color of pictures changes from bright crimson to dark black, which createsan impact visual effect and a sense of mystery.
真实与虚幻在展馆中交织而行,紧邻《我的红色家乡》旁的是一组以镜面为题的不锈钢艺术装置。
In the exhibition hall, you can see how reality and illusion interweaves. Next to“My Red Hometown”, there is a group of stainless steel art installations.
"The reflected image is the border between reality and a dream-world or apparition;it has no substance and is the instant which follows the changes in reality." Kapoor said.
