我们颠簸着驶上了公路。在城外的平原上，我们离开了蒂姆家的院子，我回头望着蒂姆·格雷的身影在平原上渐渐退去。这个奇怪的家伙站在那里足足有两分钟，注视着远去的我们，不知道他脑子里转着什么悲哀的念头。他渐渐变得越来越小，直到成为一个影子。他一只手在头上挥舞着，象个船长。我痛苦地转回头想再看看蒂姆·格雷，直到他的身影完全消失，我遥望着东部堪萨斯方向，一直往东走，到了大西洋岸边就是我的家。　　前面说到，正确的见地是基于放下自我执著而发生的，所以要看看是不是有“我执”在，是不是已经将情绪、不理智拿走。有自我在，就会将“我”和事物扯上关联。这就好比给某一事物加入了一个新的部件，很有可能就会失去它原有的特征和作用。一杯清咖啡，加了奶，它就变成奶咖而不是清咖啡了。
